SarahWheatSarah Wheat, DVM, Director of ICU
Dr. Wheat graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Loving emergency medicine, she started her journey with us and has been here ever since. Though currently the Director of Emergency Medicine, she still enjoys her time on the floor with our wonderful patients, clients, and staff. In addition to cats and dogs, Dr. Wheat has special interest in pocket pets and reptiles. Dr. Wheat is currently president elect of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. She has a special interest in a more global approach to the future of veterinary medicine. When not caring for her patients, she is the mother of 2 beautiful children, and many family pets. She loves to read, and spend time traveling with her family.

StephaniePullinStephanie Pullin, DVM, Director of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Pullin joined SCAE in September 2013 following graduation from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include internal medicine, cardiology, and neurology. Dr. Pullin particularly enjoys the variety of emergency medicine and helping those in need. Her hobbies include traveling, tennis, and swimming. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, two boys, dog, and cat.

AlisonMcIntireAlison McIntire, DVM
Dr. McIntire is a 1985 graduate from the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine. Early in her career she practiced emergency medicine and since 2006 has come back to it. Reading and attending continuing education sessions to keep current with standards of care keeps her busy and satisfies her love of learning. Dr. McIntire and her husband, Scott have been married since 1987. They have one daughter, two sons, one dog and two cats. Her spare time is spent with her family, garden and reading books.

drjohnsonChris Johnson, DVM
Dr. Chris Johnson attended undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri. In 1994, he graduated from veterinary school. He moved to Atlanta in 1995 and has practiced as a day practitioner and emergency clinician. He has been married for 19 years and has three children. Dr. Johnson enjoys running and racquetball, and his hobbies include collecting action figures, and enjoying show tunes.

Registered Veterinary Technicians

ChristyRagsdaleChristy, Registered Veterinary Technician
Christy began her career in veterinary medicine over 20 years ago. She became a registered technician in 2007 and has been furthering her education by attending conferences and online courses. She has cared for patients in many different types of emergencies in her years of working in this field and her sympathy, compassion and nursing expertise is an invaluable asset. She also enjoys raising injured and orphaned wildlife in her spare time. She has been married for 25 years, has 2 children, 3 dogs and 8 chickens. In her free time, she enjoys gardening.

VonnieCowin1Vonnie, Registered Veterinary Technician
Vonnie began her career in veterinary medicine in 1979. She became registered in 2007, and has continued in her career with a true heart. She loves her cases as much today as she did the first day she walked in the doors of an animal hospital. She has a special talent with fearful or anxious patients, having a calming effect on them. This allows them to be treated without stress. She loves goats as well as her 9 year old pit bull named Keepher.

CorinneEckertCorinne, Registered Veterinary Technician
Corinne graduated from the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh in 2014 with a desire to go into emergency medicine. She has since become a Registered Veterinary Technician and is now fulfilling her lifelong passion of caring for animals. She has been a volunteer with a local rescue group since 2008 and continues to volunteer in her spare time. Her compassionate nature and upbeat attitude have been a valuable asset for the working environment. She enjoys reading and being outdoors, especially traveling to the mountains and camping. She has taken an interest in wildlife rehabilitation. She currently owns one dog, Jax, 4 chickens, and an ever-changing 20 gallon fish tank.

Mary joined the SAVES Emergency team in the summer of 2016. She has worked in day practice for the last 3 years after graduating from Gwinnett Technical College and becoming a registered technician in 2013. She thoroughly enjoys the diversity of cases and the challenges they present since joining the SAVES team. In her spare time Mary likes to paint, sew and pretend she has time for Pinterest projects. She has two 13 year old Labrador Retrievers and three spunky kitties that rule her and her husband’s lives.

Tricia began her veterinary technician career in 2001. She attended UCONN and SCSU and studied animal science and biology. She joined SAVES in February 2016 after moving from Connecticut. Her career has allowed her to work in many specialties such as oncology, internal medicine, critical care, surgery, neurology, and cardiology. With her wide base of veterinary technician knowledge, she brings a lot of experience and ability to share that knowledge and experience. In her free time she is enjoying down time with her family and hanging out with the dogs on the farm.

HannahHollandHannah, Veterinary Assistant
Hannah graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of West Georgia, before having a change in interest and pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. She is currently enrolled in the RVT program, so that she can become a Registered Veterinary Technician. When not working, Hannah spends her time with her two quirky cats, Jezebel and Dinah, and her sweet Labrador retriever, Cate. She enjoys working with all animals, but has a particular interest in exotics and wildlife. Some of her hobbies include nature photography, spoiling her adorable godchildren, reading, archery, spending time with her friends and family, and getting her very special cats out of the awkward positions they find themselves in.

MeredithGarreltsMeredith, Veterinary Assistant
Meredith joined the SAVES family in April 2015. Her career with veterinary medicine in 2011. She is currently in school to become a registered technician. She loves emergency medicine and animals, making this the best job she’s ever had. Her favorite breeds are collies and Shetland Sheepdogs since that’s what she grew up with but currently has goofy mutt named Lotus. She enjoys riding her two horses Charlie and Triton, hiking, kayaking, and anything else outdoors.

Amanda started her career at SAVES in the fall of 2016. Originally, Amanda was in school studying Pre-Med, to work in a hospital pediatric ward. She changed her medical direction when she started here and gained more experience with the animals we care for. She is currently preparing to start RVT school, so she can become a Registered Veterinary Technician and pursue her new-found passion for taking care of animals. In her free time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her son outside at parks, the lake, and at the zoo where she can share her love of animals and nature with him. She is not only the proud mother of one handsome little boy, but also, after the adoption is completed she will be the mother of her son’s first puppy.

paigePaige, Veterinary Assistant

Paige joined the SAVES team in early 2016. After moving from the big city of Las Vegas, she soon learned that her passion would involve caring for animals. She has since begun studying to become a Registered Veterinary Technician where she plans to further her knowledge in emergency medicine. An advocate for the “bully breeds”, she owns a loving Pit Bull Terrier named Gracie. In her free time she enjoys reading, catching up on the latest Netflix shows, and spending time with family and friends. Paige hopes her time in veterinary medicine will help make an impact on the public and speaking up for those who cannot speak up for themselves.

Cristi began her veterinary medicine career 20 years ago. After being a stay at home mom for 10 years, she has now returned to the workforce with some familiar faces by joining our practice in 2016. Cristi has always had a love in caring for animals. In her free time she enjoys being with her family, going to Lake Hartwell, and watching baseball and football.

Amber was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She began her career, at the age of 13, working with horses at a breeding facility in east Georgia and then began working with dogs and cats while in her final years of high school. After college she returned home to Atlanta and continued her education in veterinary medicine. She has a great love for large breed dogs, bully breeds, and large cats. She enjoys reading, listening to music, horseback riding(when she has time), and spending free time with her family on her days off. She has a beautiful little girl named Niyah, a Mastiff/Boxer mix named Boomer and her 2 tabby cats Leo and Luna.

Sumner started working for SAVES in early 2016 in the emergency department. She loves to do what she can to help animals in need. When not at work, she spends time at home with her animals or on the many movie and TV show sets filming in and around Atlanta as a background extra.

Erin began working at SAVES Center in August 2016. She has been in the veterinary field for over 15 years. in her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors and anything that comes along with that. Erin also enjoys rescuing wildlife and spending time with her family.

Nathan has been with SAVES for 2 years. He has always had a passion for animals. He started with a goal to explore the possibility of becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine, but has since decided to pursue a career in human medicine. The care and compassion he shows to every patient he assists in treating are a huge asset to SAVES. In his spare time, Nathan enjoys biking and spending time outdoors. He is the parent of a cat named Sloan and a German Short Haired Pointer named Benny.

ashleyAshley, Veterinary Assistant
Ashley joined the SAVES team in the summer of 2016 after her family relocated from Auburn, AL. She grew up on a small farm in Griffin, Georgia and has had a passion for caring for animals since she was very young. She graduated from Auburn University in 2010 with a B.S. degree in Animal Sciences with a minor in Leadership. Initially, Ashley worked with large animals in high school and undergraduate jobs on multiple horse farms and at Auburn’s dairy. She has worked with many research projects through Auburn as well as working the past 5 years at Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine in their Emergency and Critical Care department caring for patients while helping teach 4th year vet students about the technical aspect of the field. In her free time she enjoys riding her horses and spending time with her husband and their multiple toy/mini Australian Shepherds.

kaylan-wKaylan, Veterinary Assistant
Kaylan earned her undergraduate degree in biology with a chemistry minor from LaGrange College in 2015. In 2013, she began working at SAVES and did a stint as an intern for Zoo Atlanta with the elephant keepers caring for their elephants and other exotics. She has worked at Georgia Veterinary Rehabilitation to expand her knowledge in alternative veterinary medicine and rehabilitation. When not working, she spends her spare time climbing, running, and hiking or snuggling with her pit bull, Baloo.


Erika, Receptionist

Erika Joined SAVES in February 2017, but she has been working in the Veterinary Medicine field collectively since 2003. Since starting in the field, Erika has worked as a Kennel Assistant, a Veterinary Assistant, and now as a Receptionist. She has also worked with livestock, poultry, and horses. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, camping at State Parks, and photography.

Lynn, Receptionist

Lynn has been with us since February 2017. She will greet you at the front door with a smile, and make your experience as pleasant as possible! She previously worked for an ophthalmologist’s’ office. She is a native of Heard County and just recently moved into the area with her husband Joe and their two children, Rachel and Shawn. Her house is always alive with activity having dogs, chickens, guinea pigs and various types of reptiles! As a family, they love to watch and play sports. They love to take their dogs on long walks and watching Disney movies.
